La pasada noche (4 de mayo) se emitió e Estados Unidos “Bad Reputation”, el capítulo de la serie de televisión “Glee”, en el que participó Olivia Newton-John interpretando una nueva versión de su Nº 1, “Physical”, junto a una de las estrellas de la serie, Jane Lynch (Sue Sylvester).

Esta nueva versión ya está a la venta y en menos de 24 horas tras la emisión de “Bad Reputation”, se ha colocado en el Top 20 de los singles más vendidos en iTunes, lo que supondría que “Physical” podría volver a entrar en la lista oficial de ventas de Estados Unidos casi 29 años después de su edición original.

En 1981, Olivia Newton-John obtuvo un enorme éxito -y un escándalo mayúsculo provocado por su contenido sexual- con su canción “Physical” y su correspondiente videoclip (galardonado con un Grammy), en el que hacía gimnasia con un grupo de culturistas gays. Tanto la canción como su vídeo fueron prohibidos en muchas emisoras de radio estadounidenses, en la BBC y también en Suráfrica. Aún así, “Physical” se convirtió en el mayor éxito de su carrera, consiguiendo ser Nº 1 en Estados Unidos durante 10 semanas consecutivas y superando a The Beatles (su mayor logro fue “Hey Jude”, que fue Nº 1 durante 9 semanas) y a Elvis Presley. Además, fue el single más exitoso de toda la década de los 80. A principios de este año, la revista Billboard confeccionó una lista con las 50 canciones más sexys de la historia del pop y el rock que han sido éxito en su lista de ventas entre 1958 y 2010. La ganadora fue, precisamente, “Physical”.

Esta canción con influencias de reggae compuesta por Terry Britten, (que también le escribió canciones para Tina Turner) y remezclada por John “Jelybean” Benitez, fue el segundo sencillo del álbum “Soul Kiss” de Olivia en 1985. Este tema está impregnado de la actitud que sólo Olivia puede dar. Aunque no llegó a la lista de los 40, le fue bien en las discos y no sólo los fans buscaron este 12 pulgadas, sino que también los coleccionistas de música bailable.
